Description
This course has been designed for personnel responsible for the operations of GE steam turbine with the traditional mechanical hydraulic control systems. The course will fundamentally explain the operations and purpose of those devices that the operator interacts with on an everyday basis. The course will also explain the protective features of the control system.
Topical Outline
Steam Turbine Fundamental Review, Operational Description of the Turbine Lube Oil System, Functional Description of the Turbine Control System Components, Speed / Load Control, Reheat Turbine Controls, Turbine Trip System.
HPC’s instructional staff on this topic is significant. The materials were developed by those who have been working on steam turbine-generators their whole career.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course the participant will be able to:
- List and state the purpose of those mechanical hydraulic control devices located in the front standard that are pertinent to turbine operation.
- Describe the fundamental response of each of these control devices, given a change in input.
- State the purpose of the individual turbine inlet control valves.
- Describe response of the turbine control system with a frequency deviation.
- Describe response of the turbine control system with a change in load demand imposed by operations.
- Describe the 1st and 2nd line-of-defense against overspeed.
- List and describe those protective systems used in the MHC systems.
- List and describe typical procedures for on-line tests of control system devices.
What you will receive
One copy of HPC Technical Services' textbook, TG407, (GE) MHC Controls for Operators, Written by Harold Parker. It is a valuable desktop reference in addition to being able to enhance the learning process.
A Certificate of Completion with 14 PDH awarded.

Steam Turbine Certification
Those who attend this course are automatically scheduled to take HPC Technical Services' Certification Examination. This examination is scheduled as part of the course schedule and is offered at no additional expense to the participant. An 80% passing grade is required. The examination length will not exceed 2-hours. Those who complete this examination will receive a revised "certificate of completion" that recognizes this accomplishment along with two-copies of a "To Whom It May Concern" letter that states their accomplishment. (Two copies are provided, one for the participants' employer and one for the participants' personal file.) Consult HPC's website,
www.TurbineGeneratorTraining.com, for detail on this certification program.
